Beastie Boys Hello Nasty Remastered & RawLandmark 1998 Album Has Been Re-Released as a 2-Disc Set
The Beastie Boys have re-released their 1998 album 'Hello Nasty', fully re-mastered, now as a 2-Disc, 43 track collection, including unreleased cuts.
The legendary NYC group has done it again. After a successful re-release of Paul's Boutique earlier this year, The Beastie Boys have treated fans and critics to a much beefier version of 1998's Hello Nasty. The album yielded one of the biggest hits of that period, 'Intergalactic', which featured an off-the-wall music video, complete with giant robots and hazard suits. Sifting through the 2-disc set however, it is the bulk of new material and re-tweaked tracks that are most notable. 2 discs + 43 tracks + 21 bonus cuts and rarities = Millions of Happy Fans around the world. Beastie Boys Vs The CriticsIn 1998, Hello Nasty originally received 4.5 stars out of 5 on AMG but many critics felt the album was overly long. Weighing in at 43 tracks, the new release goes above and beyond, making it a 2-disc set, or for hardcore collectors, $100 will net you the four disc, 180-gram vinyl set. Rolling Stone has given the remastered edition a 4/5. Bonus FeaturesThe album features an entire disc of outtakes and bonus material, opening with the inane studio banter of 'Description of a Strange Man', to the funky, chunky snippet of 'Dirty Dog' (all 46 seconds of it) and remixes of 'Putting Shame In Your Game', 'The Negotiation Limerick File', 'Body Movin', and an excellent 'Piano Jam'. If many of the tracks are unrecognizable to even the most loyal Beastie Boys fan, it's because they have never appeared on another release by the group. The Beastie Boys CollaborationsThe list of remixers, engineers and guests on Disc 2 of this record is quite impressive. For example, there are 2 new versions of 'Body Movin', as remixed by Fatboy Slim on track 6, then again by Kut Masta Kurt on track 18. It's the same song, but a very different take on the final mix. The most astounding is quite possibly the original single off 1998's release, 'Intergalactic', which was given a facelift by International producers Colleone & Webb. The track has a very different feel now, which gives a new underground take on one of The Beastie Boys most mainstream numbers of the last decade or so. What's Next? The Beastie Boys' next album 'Hot Sauce Committee' has been put on hold due to MCA Adam Yauch being diagnosed with cancer of the preaortic gland and lymph node. The group has also postponed all touring and live appearances while MCA undergoes treatment. Hello Nasty is the 5th edition in the group's re-issue series that includes 'License to Ill', 'Paul's Boutique', 'Check Your Head' and 'Ill Communication'.
